The Tees Valley Green Infrastructure Strategy was published in 2008. It sets out a vision for green infrastructure in the Tees Valley to develop by 2021 a network of green corridors and green spaces that:

There is now increasing concern for our economy, our environment and our society as everyone faces upto a series of profound and long term challenges. There is a need for practical approaches which can foster economic growth and protect and improve the places where people live and work. Tees Valley Unlimited has been part of a consortium has aimed to provide, for the first time, a simple framework to identify and scope the benefits of proposed green investments and existing green assets.

A Green Infrastructure Programme Manager is now based in Tees Valley, supported as part of a partnership by Tees Valley Unlimited, Forestry Commission, Natural England and Groundwork North East who host the post holder, David M Walton. David is working on a range of projects that increase GI around major developments within the Tees Valley, implementing the Tees Valley Green Infrastructure strategy and seeking to make the Tees Valley a better place to live and work. David is part of a team that can provide advice to developers, businesses, and local authorities across Tees Valley who wish to understand how to fund and improve schemes, improve economic performance, and improve communities through green infrastructure creation and maintenance.
