Overview of the Sector in Tees Valley

The digital and creative sector is a central theme for enterprise development across each Tees Valley. This activity is focused on the work of Digital City, based in Middlesbrough, and Teesside University, mentoring and supporting entrepreneurs to accelerate the start up rate of new companies and maximising their high growth potential. Teesside University is one of the leading universities in animation and computer gaming, hosting the annual international Animex conference each year and producing over 400 graduates annually from its School of Computing.

The new Creative Hub in Redcar will also house creative firms, Darlington is home to a number of major players, including Lygo International and Webworks and there is real expertise in the Tees Valley at the likes of Cleveland College of Art and Design and Tees Valley Arts.

13 Strides

Based at Digital City, 13 Strides are a digital sports agency providing media and web design and have worked for the likes of Channel 4.

 

Amazing Interactives

Based in Middlesbrough, Amazing Interactives are expert in 3d animation with clients particularly in the health and education sectors.

 

Fifteen Digital

Online digital marketing support company, which specializes in e-commerce software, web design and digital marketing. Clients include the likes of Costa Coffee, KFC and JVC and they are based at Lingfield Point.

 

Lygo International

Lygo International Ltd are industry leaders in designing, manufacturing and supplying accessories for all major video gaming platforms. They are Europe's largest private label games company, shipping and stock planning in excess of 5 million units a year. Their Corporate HQ is in Darlington.

 

Onyx Group

Established in 1994, Onyx Group is one of the UK's leading technology providers, specialising in business continuity, data centres, network services, cloud and managed services. They are based in Stockton.

 

Webworks Internet  

Darlington-based company that has grown into one of the UK's leading internet/web design companies, now providing websites for over 12,000 SMEs across the world. They employ around 50 people.

 

Amplience

Leading rich-media merchandising and marketing platform developers, with clients including Waitrose, Dunhill, Superdry and boohoo.com. Opened their Middlesbrough office in 2012 due to the talent pool available in the North East.

 

Appamondo

Cloud computing firm which moved to Boho in Middlesbrough in 2012. They are an authorized re-seller of Google Apps.

 

Back 2 Front Animation

The Stockton company is a character design animation specialist and has served clients including Real Radio and Nickelodean.

 

Double Eleven

Middlesbrough digital firm Double Eleven, based in Boho, has an indefinite exclusive development deal with Sony to work on games for its Playstation platform. It won Small Business of the Year in 2012 North East Business awards.

 

iMedia Solutions

Redcar firm which specialise in web design and e-commerce, particularly on automotive e-commerce and e-bay store design.

 

iSnapshot

Based in Middlesbrough, iSnapshot is a growing digital firm which produces sales tools for i-phones and has seen considerable growth in demand from South Africa.

 

Nisai Group

With an office in Thornaby, Nisai Group are developers of virtual learning educational software.

 

Via Creative

Graphic design, web design and branding specialists based in Redcar.

 

Visualsoft

Web design and e-commerce specialist, Visualsoft, is based in Stockton and employs over 80 people.

Sector Skills Councils

Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for : Broadcast, film, video, interactive media, photo imaging, publishing and advertising. Fashion and Textiles (from 1 April 2010).

E-Skills UK is the Sector Skills Council for: Information technology and telecommunications.
